The centre benefits from the use of an FEI-XL30 FEGSEM with a Gatan MonoCL cathodoluminescence (CL) system which can run at electron energy densities from a few hundred eV to 30 keV. The CL system has facilities for panchromatic and monochromatic imaging, serial spectroscopy and spectrum imaging. We routinely perform experiments at liquid nitrogen temperatures and also have available a system for achieving cooling to liquid helium temperatures, which is used for critical applications.
